Versatile DB JayVaughn Myers commits to Florida

Florida now has 19 members in its Class of 2016

As Jim McElwain likes to say on twitter, #ChompChomp.

Florida has landed a commitment from JayVaughn Myers, a versatile Class of 2016 athlete from Dade City. Myers also has offers from FSU, Auburn, Miami, Louisville, Oklahoma and Nebraska. He was considered to be a Florida State lean for some time, but Gators DB coach Kirk Callahan worked hard on him and sold him on the Gators during last month’s Friday Night Lights.

Myers announced his commitment on twitter:

You can watch his highlight tape here.

There’s a lot to like about Myers, who is classified as an ATH but plays mostly defensive back, and he has a great chance to play soon after his arrival. With Vernon Hargreaves saying he’s leaving after this year, plus Brian Poole being a senior, there will be a cornerback and a safety position open for Myers to fight for. He may have some work to do on his technique, but his natural ability is more than worthy of a Florida offer.

Even better is the domino effect this could have on his brother, five star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers, who has campaigned heavily on Jayvaughn’s behalf for other top schools to offer him. Both have said that they are not a package deal, but you have to think that with all the lobbying Nate has done, playing together is at least a factor. And given Nate’s growing interest in the Gators, plus the fact that Florida offered Jayvaughn on their own as opposed to being pressured by Nate to do it, has to make him feel better toward the Florida coaching staff. I’m still not sure Florida lands him, but I feel a lot better about the Gators’ chances now that they have his brother onboard.

And even if Florida doesn’t get Nate Craig-Myers, they got a solid defensive back anyway.
