UPDATE: Dallas Wilson has officially signed with the Florida Gators! It’s a done deal. The five-star wide receiver will officially join the Gators’ 2025 class.
(Original story begins below)
Hello, my name is Dallas Wilson, and I’d like to play for the Florida Gators, please.
These were the words—well, OK, maybe not, but at least this was the sentiment—elucidated by Tampa Bay Tech wide receiver prospect Dallas Wilson, barely two weeks after he’d signed with the Oregon Ducks.
Dallas Wilson has requested to be released from his letter of intent, according to a variety of different reports—including, perhaps most reputably, On3.com’s Zach Abolverdi, who spoke with Wilson’s agent, Vernell Brown II of EL1TE Sports Management Group.
If that name sounds familiar, it’s because it’s supposed to. Brown played cornerback for Florida under Ron Zook and Urban Meyer, and his son, receiver Vernell Brown III, just signed with Florida two weeks ago—and is, pending Wilson, the highest-rated signee of the Gators’ 2025 class.
Oregon has until the end of the day today to respond to this request. Assuming Oregon grants the request, Wilson’s intent is to sign with Florida. If Oregon refuses—which would set a spectacularly bad precedent of not caring about the athletes they promise to mold into men—it’s still not a big deal, as Wilson could simply enter the transfer portal and come to Florida that way.
Because of this, it’s widely assumed that Oregon will simply release Dallas Wilson from his letter of intent. He seems set on coming to Florida one way or another, so logic says the Ducks would rather just rip the band-aid off and get it over with.
Dallas Wilson always seemed to like Florida, but his interest certainly warmed up after he visited the Swamp for Florida’s 27-16 win over LSU. Thus began a flurry of updates about Wilson trending toward Florida, but it wasn’t enough to lure him away from Oregon. He’d been committed for two full calendar years, and he decided to stick with the Ducks on Signing Day.
Or so it seemed.
But anyway, why all the fuss about Wilson? Well, because he’s one of those can’t miss prospects. 247Sports Composite’s system ranks him as the #20 overall prospect and the #4 wide receiver in the 2025 class, and similarly, On3’s Industry ranking has him rated as the #19 overall prospect and the #2 wide receiver in the class.
Simply put, this is an enormous deal. You can watch his high school highlight tape here.
Dallas Wilson possesses both the frame and the speed needed to be a natural mismatch, and he compounds that problem for opponents with spectacular ball instincts and pure athleticism. He’s capable of both the “go-up-in-traffic-and-get-it” and the “catch-and-turn-on-the-jets-and-say-goodbye” type of highlight reel plays. A natural fit for just about any offense, Wilson can seamlessly slide into a starting role as a freshman and be a major league problem for defenses on Day One.
Oh, yeah—and he’s also good as a blocker. He’s aggressive and tenacious by nature, which bodes well for him as a perimeter blocker on running plays.
Wilson’s commitment also comes with another tangible prize—officially granting Florida a top ten class. The addition of Wilson, once it becomes official, will push Florida over Tennessee’s 10th ranked class in the 247Sports Composite rankings, and grant the Gators their first top ten high school class ranking according to the Composite system.
Wilson is set to join a loaded receiver class that also includes a pair of 247Sports Composite four-star signees in Brown and Naeshaun Montgomery. With Florida also set to return Tre Wilson, Aidan Mizell, Tank Hawkins, and TJ Abrams, it would appear as though the Gators are well set at wide receiver.
Blue Chip Billy, indeed.
