Tight end Nick Elksnis (Jacksonville, FL/Episcopal) has announced his decision to be a Gator, thus netting Florida its first commitment of its Junior Day weekend. In doing so, Elksnis effectively flips from Penn State, from which he decommitted last week.
Thus, Nick Elksnis becomes the second tight end commitment of the Gators’ 2021 class after Gage Wilcox. Conversely, he becomes he second commitment for new Florida tight ends coach and de facto recruiting specialist Tim Brewster in less than one month on the job.
Don’t be fooled by Elksnis’s three star status on 247’s composite ranking system, either. He boasts offers from more than a dozen other Power Five schools. Some of them include Ohio State, Penn State, FSU, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Miami, Michigan and South Carolina. You can watch his highlight tape here. Standing 6’5 and 220 lbs, and able to run a 4.85 forty yard dash, Elksnis can become a natural mismatch out of the tight end position. Along with Wilcox, the Gators could now potentially deploy two natural mismatches on the same snap on passing plays.
With the commitment of Elksnis, Florida now has the second ranked recruiting class in the 2021 cycle behind only Ohio State, according to 247’s composite ranking system.
