The Florida Gators snuck in one last addition to their 2021 recruiting class at the last second: kicker Adam Mihalek.
Mihalek, a local from Tampa, has announced his intentions to stay close to home and attend the University of Florida as a preferred walk-on. That gives Florida a total of 28 new arrivals on campus this offseason, on top of twelve early enrollees, ten additional signees and five transfers.
Though unrated on the 247Sports Composite rankings, the Kornblue Kicking service rates him as the second best kicker in the class of 2021. He was named the 2020 Kornblue National Kicking Champion, and their website’s profile on him includes videos of some of his more impressive kicking feats. The site also comments:
“Adam had a standout performance at the Fall 2019 Kornblue Showcase, taking the event’s top spot in the class of 2021. He connected on 9 consecutive FG’s off the ground (long of 60). His kickoffs were equally impressive: 72/3.76, 84/3.85, 69/3.63, 68/3.70, 71/3.89. Keep a close eye on this talented prospect!”
Kornblue’s profile on Mihalek also notes that he has a 3.6 GPA.
Though not rated by any of the major recruiting services, the tape doesn’t lie. Mihalek has a rocket for a leg. His highlight tape shows him connecting on several field goals of 50 yards or longer, including one from 60 (off a tee, but nonetheless, leg strength is leg strength.) So even as a preferred walk-on, he’ll get some looks in Florida’s kicking battle with Chris Howard this offseason.
