Five days. Five commitments for Jim McElwain and the Gators.
The pickup this time is safety Randy Russell out of Opa Locka. Once committed to the Miami Hurricanes, Russell opted to switch to Florida the morning after the Gators held their annual Friday Night Lights camp. And please, for your own good, ignore his three star ranking in most systems; he also held offers from Georgia, South Carolina, Miami, West Virginia and North Carolina.

Florida now has eleven commits in their class of 2018, and four of them committed in the last five days. The recent barrage started when offensive lineman Curtis Dunlap committed on Tuesday. Two days later, tight end Kyle Pitts announced his intentions to become a Gator. And then the following day, the Gators added a pledge from tight end Dante Lang.
The Gators also picked up a commitment from 2019 offensive tackle Wardrick Wilson.
One of the main reasons Jim McElwain hired Randy Shannon two years ago, and Corey Bell this past year, was so they could start to pick up the pace in South Florida. And if this past week has been any indication, they’re on the right track.
