Florida’s 2025 recruiting cycle is officially underway, and the Gators got the ball rolling with their second commitment of the class.
Consensus three-star wide receiver Josiah Abdullah (Atlanta, GA/Woodward) has committed to Florida after visiting Gainesville this past weekend. Despite his rating, Abdullah has drawn the attention of some big-time schools already, including Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas, Michigan, and FSU. You can watch his high school tape here.
Josiah Abdullah, who also returns kickoffs in addition to his duties at wide receiver, was also a teammate of current Florida freshman linebacker Myles Graham at Woodward Academy in Atlanta.
As a pass-catcher, Abdullah does a lot of things well. He shows an ability to make quick, crisp cuts and provide a real window for his quarterback to throw to. He’s also able to break tackles and tack on some yards after the catch. And even despite his lack of size, he does show a nice ability to go up and bring the ball down in traffic.
It’s not just potential, either. Josiah Abdullah has produced on the field. In 2023, he reeled in 35 passes for 536 yards and eight touchdowns, and took a kickoff back to the house as well. Due in part to his contributions, Woodward Academy enjoyed an 11-2 season and advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of Georgia’s 6A playoffs.
He’s not the biggest receiver in this class, standing only 5’10 and 175 lbs. But there’s still another year for him to grow and fill out his frame, and if he can throw on a few dozen pounds of muscle in the next eighteen months or so, he could find himself contributing early and often for the Gators once he arrives for the start of the 2025 season.
Abdullah joins Tampa running back Waltez Clark as the only two commits in the Gators’ 2025 class at this early stage. Hopefully, they’ll set the foundation for a loaded class come December.
As we know, though, there’s a long way to go between now and then.
