Deuce Spurlock has officially transferred to Florida. And thus, another piece has been added to an improving linebacker room for the Florida Gators.
The former Michigan LB joins forces with an old rival, former Ohio State linebacker Teradja Mitchell, and four-star high school prospect Jaden Robinson for the class of 2023. Spurlock will aim to compete for playing time this coming season where, to be frank, a lot of unknowns exist.
One thing we do know, though, is that Spurlock- originally from Madison, AL- is returning to the southeast, where he thrived in high school.
As a high school prospect, Deuce Spurlock was a three-star recruit who committed to Jim Harbaugh and Michigan during the 2022 recruiting cycle. While he was just inside the Top 1000 prospects in his class, his standout film showcased an incredible athletic ability. He successfully played both sides of the ball at Madison Academy (AL) which included explosive receiving touchdowns and the ability to get in the backfield on defense. This caught the eye of several Power Five schools including Florida, Auburn, Mississippi State and Washington before ultimately heading north to Ann Arbor.
This past season he appeared in two contests en route to back-to-back Big 10 titles for the Wolverines. While Deuce Spurlock came in at around 200 pounds, he quickly added great size to his 6’2″ frame. According to the Michigan website, he now is around 230 pounds. That bodes well from him to compete at the SEC level. He will come with four full years of eligibility remaining.
The linebacker room as reported earlier this past week is very much in flux. Spurlock will look to compete versus the likes of Derek Wingo, Scooby Williams, Teradja Mitchell, Jaden Robinson and rising star Shemar James. The key for major improvement next season for Patrick Toney will be the performance of this unit and the addition of Spurlock will go a long way in helping with that.
