Mike White already had a pretty good class of 2018 locked up with Noah Locke and Andrew Nembhard sending in their letters of intent yesterday, but there was one more piece still to come.
Small forward Keyontae Johnson (Norfolk, VA/Oak Hill) has announced his decision to commit to Florida, and is expected to send in his letter of intent to Florida within the hour. Johnson also had offers from Connecticut, Minnesota, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech, among others, and is ranked as a consensus four star recruit. Most recruiting services have him somewhere between the No. 95 and 115 overall ranked recruit in the class, as well as between 20 and 30 among forwards.
The physical attributes are impressive, too. Johnson stands 6’5″, 190 pounds, and is extremely athletic to boot. He can take it to the bucket with an explosive first step, and is equally capable of getting out in the transition game and filling the outside lane. But most importantly, Johnson is a team-first player, with better pure passing skills than most small forwards at his young stage of the game.
Now Florida has three potential instant impact guys in its 2018 class. And assuming they don’t turn Gainesville into Lexington South and all depart for the NBA after one season, they could be the foundation for another era of championships for the Gator basketball program.
