Florida’s secondary just got a huge boost for 2017.
Slot back Duke Dawson announced that he would return for his senior season. He figures to move into the CB1 slot with the departures of Quincy Wilson and Teez Tabor (who hasn’t announced a decision yet, but it’s a foregone conclusion that he’ll go.) Had he declared for the NFL Draft, he probably would have been a third or fourth round pick.
So this is huge news for Florida, as Dawson played every bit as well as Tabor and Wilson and more than held his own when tested. Most notably, Dawson recorded a pick six off of Austin Allen of Arkansas, and broke up a pair of late passes to clinch the win against Georgia. He’s a fast, physical corner with no fear, much like Tabor and Wilson. And with a year of playing the CB1 slot to show what he can do on a full time basis, there’s little doubt in my mind that he can work his way up draft boards and into the first round.
Here’s to a fantastic senior year, Duke.
