A busy day in terms of news for Florida’s upcoming football schedules, and I’m hearing there’s another announcement coming in the next few days or weeks.
For now, let’s focus on the two that the University has confirmed.
First, Florida will host East Carolina in Gainesville on September 12, 2015. That game comes right after their opener against New Mexico State, so it should provide for a nice 2-0 start.
Second, Florida and FSU have agreed to extend their annual rivalry through 2018. This one sends up a red flag. Is 2018 really as far into the future as these teams were willing to set a date in stone against the other one? I mean, Florida and Georgia keep extending their Jacksonville deal by seven year increments, and those are two SEC teams, so they have to play each other anyway- they’re just bickering over location. But Florida and FSU have no contractual obligation to play each other as members of different conferences. Why just extend by four years?
What do you think about this?
