The wild, wacky roller coaster that is Rod Johnson’s football career is finally over.
A couple of months ago, Johnson’s career was pronounced over due to a rare spinal condition. It was a big blow to the Gators’ already weak offensive line, but it was an absolutely devastating blow to Johnson. To his credit, he didn’t give up; he vowed to do everything he could to prove the doctors wrong and try to mount a comeback. But today, he announced on twitter that he was finally, officially, calling it quits:

This comes as no surprise, really; I was never counting on Johnson to play a key role on Florida’s offensive line again, though I was rooting for him. Typically, when a doctor tells you you’re done, you’re done. There are exceptions, but the odds are certainly not in your favor. Nonetheless, I feel awful for Johnson personally, and wish him the best in life. And I say that in the exact same way I would for a successful assistant coach, or player getting drafted, because Rod will always be a Gator.
