You’ve gotta be kidding me.
Florida’s QB battle for this week’s South Carolina game might be over before it began.
UPDATE: no, not might be. It is. Kyle Trask has broken his foot:

Backup QB Kyle Trask suffered a serious non-contact leg injury during practice last night and had to be carted off the field. The whispers from inside the program are that he’s finished for the season, including a bowl game. Trask was expected to compete with the struggling Feleipe Franks for the right to start the Gators’ SEC finale against the Gamecocks this Saturday, but now that appears to be out the window, as even if it’s not a season ending injury as is feared he almost surely won’t be healthy enough to start against an SEC opponent if he couldn’t leave the field on his own power three days before the game.
Though no more details were provided, non contact injuries typically are just as severe if not more so than contact injuries. If it’s an ACL injury- and I’m purely speculating, but if it is- Trask is likely out for not just this season, but possibly a good portion of next season as well, as those can take up to a full calendar year to fully recover from.
Florida’s sole remaining alternative to Franks now is to pull Emory Jones’ redshirt and use him in the Gators’ remaining four games. Dan Mullen has previously indicated his desire to not do that, but he may change his mind now depending on how badly he wants to win the duration of his games.
Any way about it: get well soon, Kyle.
