Dan Mullen and his staff added a trio of commitments to the Gators’ 2020 recruiting class this weekend- including one really big one.
The first pickup of the weekend came on Friday night, when defensive tackle Lamar Goods announced his commitment on Twitter.

Goods- a consensus four star prospect out of Oakdale, CT- also had offers from Georgia, Michigan State, Tennessee, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. He joins an already loaded DT class that also includes in-state four stars Gervon Dexter and Johnnie Brown. Goods stands 6’4, 290 and though he’ll have his own classmates to battle for playing time, he’ll be difficult to keep off the field entirely after a year in Nick Savage’s strength program.
Mere moments after Goods committed, cornerback Tre’Vez Johnson pulled the trigger as well.

In the interest of keeping things real here, Johnson was not Florida’s top targets in the secondary. A unanimous three star cornerback from Jacksonville, Johnson’s offer list isn’t terrible, but it certainly doesn’t pop out at you with Virginia Tech, Nebraska, North Carolina and Boston College leading the way. But he covers well for 5’11, and could potentially be of real service in a nickel or dime package.
Last, and most important, came Derek Wingo- perhaps the biggest recruiting win yet for LB coach Christian Robinson.

A high four star by all accounts, Wingo flipped from Penn State yesterday morning in order to commit to Florida. As it stands right now, Wingo is one of the crown jewels is this class. The St. Thomas Aquinas linebacker boasts offers from pretty much everybody, including Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, FSU, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin, and for good reason. With the Opening Finals and the high school All American Bowl on his resume, Wingo figures to one day play an integral role in Todd Grantham’s defense- particularly with the departure of David Reese after this season.
With this hat trick, Florida’s 2020 class now has sixteen commitments, and is now ranked the #8 class in the nation by 247’s ranking system and #6 in the nation according to rivals.
So much for the whole “Dan Mullen can’t recruit” narrative.
