Welcome to Gator Nation, Michai Boireau! (Image By: Dustin Smith)
It’s crazy to think it’s been nearly a full week since Michai Boireau picked Florida over Georgia, but now that the shockwaves have begun to simmer down a bit, let’s step back and analyze Boireau a little bit more.
The commitment to Florida came after Boireau had visited both Florida and Georgia over the past two weeks. While this may not take away the sting of losing former four star running back commit Chauncey Bowens, it’s a nice head to head victory for Florida nonetheless. Because while he may only have three stars beside his name, Michai Boireau is a massive body defensive tackle that fits in perfectly to the scheme Austin Armstrong wants to run.
You can watch his highlight tape here.
Many Gator fans see Michai as a big body defensive tackle similar to the likes of current player Desmond Watson. Boireau is measured at 370 pounds, but some- including 247Sports- are saying he is closer to 390. Sound familiar? Once he gets in Mark Hocke’s strength program and the Florida nutrition program and gets into the shape he needs to be in, he will be a scary sight.
When watching his film, Michai Boireau has a bull rush that overwhelms the interior gaps at the line of scrimmage. This allows for his fellow teammates to get in the backfield and either bring down the quarterback or stuff the run. He shows an ability to use his hands to shed blockers himself and quickly get to the ball carrier for a big guy, too. It will be interesting to see what his senior film looks like, but if he continues to improve I see a rise in the rankings to blue-chip status for the Georgia native.
We say it all the time when Florida does not get a highly touted prospect: look at the film and the offer list. Well, if you clicked the link above you can see exactly what we described. A high school prospect how has traits to play in the line of scrimmage dominated league that is the SEC.
Moreover, there’s the head to head aspect of this recruiting addition. Michai Boireau picked Florida over Georgia. Kirby Smart wanted his signature, and he still might. When you have the attention of the two-time defending national champions and the best defense in college football, that commands a respect on the recruiting trail, and adds a level of significance to the recruiting win.
So once again, we say: we should have full faith in the evaluation in this staff from the film. And seeing Kirby copy Billy’s homework yet again should prove worthy too.
