Geoff Collins, the Minister of Mayhem, will now have two NFL caliber seniors to administer the mayhem. Look out, 2016 NFL Draft.
One day after star defensive end Jonathan Bullard announced that he would return for his senior season, Antonio Morrison has announced that he would do the same:
“I’m returning to Florida and I will be getting my degree in 2015. That plays a big role in why I’m returning. And as a leader of this team, I want to lead my team to Atlanta and possibly a national championship. Coach McElwain has put together a great staff and I’m looking forward to working with them this year.”
Morrison picked up All-SEC honors and 101 tackles this past season, the first Gator to total more than 100 in a single year since Ahmad Black in 2010- and you’d always like your linebackers to make more tackles than your safeties. Morrison will be counted on as a leader of Geoff Collins’ “PsychoSquad” defense, and the leader of Randy Shannon’s linebackers.
But it’s not like Morrison will be the only linebacker of star quality in 2015. He’s going to be joined by Alex Anzalone, Jarrad Davis, Daniel McMillian and Matt Rolin, all of whom were highly recruited. Anzalone in particular broke out this past season, and left Gator fans giddy with excitement about what’s in store from him next year with this hit on ECU’s Justin Hardy in the Birmingham Bowl.
Pair this linebacker corps with what promises to be a ferocious defensive line featuring Bullard, Bryan Cox Jr. and Alex McAllister, and this defensive front seven should be insane. Now throw in a young but extremely talented secondary that boasts Vernon Hargreaves, Jalen Tabor and Duke Dawson as lockdown corners and Keanu Neal and Brian Poole as rapidly improving safeties, and what you appear to have is a defense that’s ready to administer some mayhem.
