Another weekend, another successful showing for the Gator baseball team.
The victims of the red-hot Gators this time were the Georgia Bulldogs, a team that Florida has now beaten 20 out of the last 25 games. Georgia isn’t a particularly strong team this year, but as I wrote last week, the Gators have already dealt with the toughest teams on their schedule earlier in the year. Now comes the portion of the schedule Florida is supposed to run through and boost their record- which they got off to an excellent start doing with the sweep of the Bulldogs.
After beating the Dogs by a combined score of 21-6, the Gators’ schedule remains easy for another week. Florida A&M tonight, Jacksonville tomorrow and then a weekend series with SEC cellar dweller Missouri- all at home. So for the time being, the Gators need to continue to pretty up that win-loss record with the #1 RPI in their back pocket.
This is a team on the verge of something special. The Gators are peaking right now, and I believe they have a very strong chance to host games all the way through the College World Series. If they keep playing (meaning both pitching and hitting) like this, I don’t see a team in the country this team can’t beat. Just ask FSU.
