It’s a pretty safe assumption that Florida’s secondary is going to be a rock solid one, and they played the part in the most recent scrimmage.
Among the notable moments from yesterday’s scrimmage: three different Gator defensive backs recorded interceptions, Martez Ivey had another outstanding day, and two Gator receivers caught touchdown passes.
Vernon Hargreaves, Jalen Tabor and Deiondre Porter were the ones to pick off the passes, though nobody would say who threw them. Tabor did add that one of the touchdown passes was thrown to DeMarcus Robinson, who beat him on a deep route for a relatively easy score, and that “I gotta clean that up.” But Robinson had a very good spring and is in the midst of a great fall, so getting beat by him every so often isn’t a huge concern right now. The other touchdown pass was caught by Chris Thompson. Who threw the touchdown passes was not discussed.
Then there was Martez Ivey’s performance, which continues to impress coaches and players alike. He has an incredible amount of natural athleticism, which he uses to neutralize defenders even on the rare occasions where they beat him off the snap. He earned high praise from Bryan Cox, Jr., who told Inside the Gators’ Landon Watnick that “He’s mature beyond his years… great run blocker and a good, firm pass blocker.”
Other notes:
-CJ Worton, who suffered a leg injury, is back at practice.
-The injury sustained by safety Keanu Neal is “not serious”.
-The IPF opened today, and the Gators held their first practice inside it (open). Check back later tonight for our recap of today’s practice.
