Florida’s Friday Night Lights event just netted its second commitment. Following the commitment of safety Jordan Castell earlier this morning, fellow four-star prospect Andy Jean pulled the trigger as well.
The move completes the delayed flip from his hometown Miami Hurricanes. Jean committed to the Canes back in January, but two months later, Florida got involved in his commitment. Three days after visiting Florida, he decommitted from Miami and began to reassess his options.
Following his decommitment, Jean, a consensus four-star wide receiver out of Miami Northwestern High School, was initially expected to commit to his college of choice during the football season. But he attended the Gators’ FNL camp and came away extremely impressed with Billy Napier and the entire Florida program, and decided that he couldn’t wait any longer.
According to various people who covered the event, Jean was one of the last people to leave, as he wanted to soak in the moment for as long as he could. Andy Jean also had offers from all the other schools you’d expect a four-star wide receiver to be offered by: Georgia, Miami, Alabama, Michigan. Texas A&M, Penn State, LSU, Michigan State, Tennessee, FSU, and more.
You can watch his high school highlight tape here.
Jean is a receiver that does a lot of things very well. He’s fast, he’s big enough and strong enough to outmuscle a lot of the better high school DB’s (though he does have room to continue filling out his frame), and he’s got a knack for making plays on the ball when it’s in the air. The route-running is very good, although some people who watch him consistently say he can get even better in that category while at Florida.
As a result of all of that, he was Miami Northwestern’s most dangerous pass-catcher last season on a team that went 10-4 against a loaded schedule, including fellow south Florida high school powerhouses Booker T. Washington, Carol City, and IMG Academy. Jean caught 40 passes for 733 yards and eight touchdowns on that team.
Jean may have to work some on his blocking when he gets to Florida in addition to adding a few pounds of muscle, but all things considered, this is an excellent addition to an already loaded receiver class for Florida. Combined with the ultra-speedy Aidan Mizell, the elusive and dangerous Eugene Wilson III, and class stalwart Tyree Patterson, the Gators are now officially stockpiling weapons at wide receiver.
And on top of that, the Gators have officially caught fire on the recruiting trail. Andy Jean is the fourth Florida commit in the last 44 hours, on top of Mizell, Castell, and four-star corner Ja’Keem Jackson.
Florida’s recruiting class is now ranked #12 in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
