Florida’s 2020 recruiting class keeps rolling right along at its rivals’ expense.
Yesterday morning, the Gators flipped Georgia OT commit Josh Braun. And late last night, the Gators stuck it to the Tennessee Volunteers by flipping four star cornerback Mordecai McDaniel, one of the top commits in their 2020 class. McDaniel (Washington, DC/St. John’s College High School) had also been offered by Alabama, Penn State, Michigan, Notre Dame, LSU, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Mississippi.

The fact that McDaniel is an incredible athlete with blazing straight away speed that simply can’t be taught might have something to do with that. He’s also proven to be adept at blitzing from his corner slot off the line, a tactic that defensive coordinator Todd Grantham likes to deploy quite often. He could improve his tackling a little bit, but that’s a correctable weakness and his pure natural athleticism more than makes up for that. If he learns to wrap up more and go for the highlight hit less, and learns to detect plays quicker and more consistently, he could be a high level three year starter.
After adding McDaniel, Florida’s 2020 class now consists of 24 commits, and remains at 6th in the country according to 247’s composite rankings and Rivals. With one or two more high level commitments between now and National Signing Day, Florida could finish with its first top five class since 2013.
