Looks like the Minister of Mayhem will have the perfect man to administer the mayhem.
Geoff Collins’ defense got a huge boost when defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard announced that he would stay at Florida for his senior season. We all knew that we’d lose Dante Fowler a long time ago, but I wasn’t sure about Bullard, a guy with phenomenal athletic ability who can play various roles in the defensive front. Bullard could have been as high as a third or fourth round pick with an impressive NFL Combine, but he still has a little bit of work to do before he’s ready for the NFL, in my opinion.
But I have no doubt that someday, Bullard will be more than ready for the NFL. It’s just great that he’ll get one more year at Florida to really polish up a few little things, and more importantly from a program perspective, help mentor the younger defensive linemen and groom them to become the type of standout defensive lineman that he has become.
In other news, offensive lineman DJ Humphries has announced that he will depart for the NFL. This leaves the Gators’ offensive line frighteningly thin to begin 2015, with only two returning starters from 2014. Say what you want about the line’s performance last year, but no way in hell the Gators crush Georgia without the spectacular performance the offensive line gave. It’s a big blow for Florida, but of course, I wish Humphries nothing but the best going forward.
