The Gator football team will soon be getting quite well acquainted with the late afternoon time slot.
As announced last week, Florida’s season opening game against Michigan, aka the Cowboys Kickoff Classic, has been set for a 3:30pm start time on ABC. Today, the SEC announced that Florida will play at least two more games at 3:30, against rivals Tennessee and Georgia. Those games will air on CBS.
The Florida-Georgia game has been aired by CBS every year since 1996 except 2002, and you can repeat that sentence for the Florida-Tennessee game by replacing “2002” with “2012 and 2014.” Given the network’s near monopoly of these rivalries in the last 20 years, it’s no surprise that they elected to pick them up again this year.
This was merely the first of several anticipated announcements to come from this week’s SEC meetings in Destin, with the most eagerly anticipated one being what Gator fans hope is a change to the rule that’s currently barring Florida from landing grad transfer Malik Zaire, so stay tuned for more on that as the week progresses.
