It may have been a rocky start, but what a day this is turning out to be for the Florida Gators.
So far, the Gators have received letters of intent from top targets Cece Jefferson, Jordan Scarlett, and Martez Ivey. Florida’s recruiting class just received another boost, as running back Jordan Cronkrite has announced his intentions to play football for Jim McElwain and the Florida Gators. Cronkrite was down to Florida, Miami and West Virginia.
Cronkrite reminds me a little bit of Chris Rainey. He’s a little small, but hits his top speed (4.58 40 yard dash) immediately. Like Rainey, he’s best used running the ball outside, because although he wasn’t afraid to lower his shoulder and initiate contact in high school, he won’t be able to do that at the highest level of college football. He could also play a little slot receiver, as he has decent hands.
But let’s continue on with the theme of the day: this class is about filling needs, and the Gators filled a big one by landing Cronkrite and Jordan Scarlett on Monday. There’s a need at running back due to the lack of experience behind Kelvin Taylor, and even though Cronkrite is a different type of back, he could certainly play a role in the Gators’ offense. It’s always nice to be able to terrorize defenses outside the hashmarks, especially with the inside threat that Adam Lane poses.
There are still several top uncommitted players left to announce, many of whom have Florida in their final three or four, so keep checking our official NSD tracker for updates. I have a feeling the Gators aren’t done quite yet.
