DBU just gained another member.
Prized defensive back recruit Marco Wilson has committed to Florida, selecting the Gators over Miami, USC, Ohio State and Georgia. Wilson gives the Gators their 11th member of their 2017 recruiting class (which finally ties their win streak over Tennessee).
If the name Wilson sounds familiar, it should; his brother Quincy has helped patrol the Gators’ secondary for the last two years and will again this year. The four stars beside his name don’t quite do him justice, either. His highlights suggest all the traits you want in a defensive playmaker: he’s got great instincts and technique, very quick feet, and the incredible athleticism that’s needed to do things like this:
Wilson will arrive at Florida at the perfect time, too. The Gators will lose a starting corner and a safety in Jalen Tabor and Marcus Maye, respectively, and his brother Quincy could theoretically leave after this season as well. That leaves two or three spots open in the secondary going into 2017, and Wilson has to be considered a serious contender to start right away assuming he’s healthy.
So yeah, you could say this was a big get for Jim McElwain.
